Illia Shenheliia
Senior Associate
Illia Shenheliia’s practise focuses on privacy and data protection, cybersecurity, corporate and commercial law. Illia is a Certified European Data Protection and Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) according to the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) certification program and a frequent contributor to leading industry publications.
Illia has extensive experience in advising domestic and international companies, including blockchain and alternative finance projects on the cutting-edge data protection issues, GDPR compliance, data breach responses, and privacy and cybersecurity risks management issues. He has further specialisation in conducting data protection impact assessments, developing internal data protection documentation and implementing privacy procedures.
Illia is one of the authors of the new Ukrainian data protection legislation concept introduced as a part of the upcoming Ukrainian data protection law reform, and is a member to the Data Protection working group at the Digital Transformation Committee of the Ukrainian Parliament.
Illia acts as an advisor to multiple companies on matters of corporate law and regularly structures complex domestic and cross-border corporate and investment transactions, including buyouts, mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining AURUM, Illia worked at Berlin and Paris offices of a leading EU law firm.

Advised a Swiss-based virtual asset exchange on privacy and data protection compliance in the EU, data export issues, data impact assessments, and data flow structuring.
Advising a European decentralised finance (DeFi) project on privacy and data protection issues, conducting data protection impact assessment, developing privacy notices and related documentation.
Participated in the structuring of a set of transactions on the sale of virtual assets in the aggregate amount of US$18 Million.
Advised an EU-based group of companies on the privacy and data protection compliance in the EU, including data export issues, conducting data impact assessments, and data flow structuring.
